Manor Community Academy has an ever-increasing ‘international dimension’ and our students are involved in a wide variety of projects which reflect the increasingly smaller world in which we live.
In 2011 we were delighted to be accredited with the full International School Award which recognises the international ethos we have created at school. Throughout the year at Manor Community Academy a number of international activities take place, either as special events or in curriculum time, and all these activities seek to show students that we are all citizens of one world.
Last year activities which took place included an international sports day, eTwinning projects with France, Germany and Italy, Italian lessons and, following a visit to our partner schools in India by one of our teachers, Indian welcome ceremonies for students throughout the academy!
These activities have had a great impact on our young people and they are looking forward to this year’s projects. Each year a minimum of seven international activities will take place so keep checking the global awareness tab for news!
In February 2012 Mrs Welsh represented Manor College on a trip to our Indian partner schools in Tamil Nadu.
Mrs Welsh sent daily updates about her trip and you can read them below:
Greetings from Dubai!
The journey from Newcastle to Dubai has been great so far and although it is 2am here the temperature is 18c!
Next stop Chennai!
This afternoon we have been lucky enough to meet teachers from all our partner schools at the British Council offices in Chennai. We spent two delightful hours chatting to them and sharing ideas for our visit.
We then had a lovely snack (vegetable cutlets which tasted a bit like a spicy vegetarian fritter) and then we had a presentation from Mrs Latha and Rajendran from the State Government about the different education system in Tamil Nadu. There are over 55,000 schools in Tamil Nadu! Amazing!
We are looking forward to meeting some of the children at two schools tomorrow - keep logging on to the Manor College website to find out more!
Today we have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to us by pupils and teachers of two schools, a Government High School and PUMS Nallambakkam. We were treated like royalty.
The children were so excited to meet people from England but the honour was really for us to meet these amazing people.
Today we have enjoyed a visit to PSPB - a private school in Chennai which had nearly 4000 pupils altogether!
During the day we enjoyed lesson observations, a tour and a cultural show with lots of examples of amazing singing and dancing. Another great day and we are really enjoying our time in India!
Today we visited another 2 of our partner schools and were treated to marvellous cultural displays in both, with singing, dancing and acting.
One of the schools was out in the hills around Chennai, and if it wasn't for the sun beaming down, you could almost believe you were in Scotland!
Today we have had a really busy day visiting three more of our partner schools. We were again greeted in the most warm and generous way by colleagues from P.U.M.S. Guduvancheri, P.U.M.S. Asthinapuram 17 and P.U.M.S. Higher Elementary School in Kalvoy.
We were treated to displays of singing, dancing, acting and even a magic show today! Amazing.
The week in India has flown and I cannot believe that we are leaving tomorrow night. If you are interested in the India project, speak to me at school and you could start a project with schools here.
Tata (that's Tamil for bye!)
