Exam Board: Edexcel
This course is an introduction to the world of Music Technology. It is equivalent to a GCSE (A* - C) and involves using state of the art equipment to experience all aspects of recording and producing Music. The course is taught in the new Music Technology suite and is based around the "industry standard" software Pro Tools.
Lessons are nearly all practical, with students working on "scenarios" that are based on real industry jobs. This BTEC qualification offers direct progression on to the "A" level Music Tech course or into employment.
What will you study?
Working in the Music Industry (Unit 1)
- Study the different types of organisations in the music industry.
- Study job roles in the music industry.
Managing a Music Product (Unit 2)
- Plan develop and produce a CD
- Promote the CD
- Review the management of the CD
Introduction to Music Recording (Unit 6)
- Plan recording sessions
- Produce multi track recordings.
Introduction to Music Sequencing (Unit 7)
- Explore music sequencing techniques
- Create music through Music Sequencing
How will you be assessed?
Unit 1: Exam - Distinction plus = A*
Unit 2: 2 assignments - Distinction = A
Unit 6: 5 assignments - Merit = B
Unit 7: 5 assignments - Pass = C
You could progress after your GCSE to study Music Technology "A" level at 6th Form College. Some further education colleges offer Music Technology courses, you will need to check each college to find out their entry requirements and their courses on offer.
Progression after college would usually be to University to study Music Technology further.
