KS3 Physical Education
PE develops students’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. Students will build on and embed the physical development and skills learnt in Key Stages 1 and 2. A high-quality physical education curriculum enables all pupils to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity.
Students will develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they will think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them.
Students will complete units in Creative Movement, Outwitting Opponents, Athletic Activities, Aquatic Activities, Healthy Active Lifestyles, Outdoor Adventures, Leadership and Fundmental motor skills. These units will be delivered through the following range of sports:
Rugby, football, basketball, gym, badminton, swimming, table tennis, orienteering, fitness, athletics, tennis, cricket and softball.
Netball, rugby, badminton, volleyball, basketball, gym / trampolining, swimming, orienteering, fitness, athletics, tennis, cricket and rounders.
Pupils will be assessed continuously on using the NC descriptors of developing skills, making & applying decisions, developing physical & mental capacity, evaluating & improving and making informed choices about healthy, active lifestyles.
Pupils will also be assessed at the end of a specific sport using criteria that links into the GCSE grading system.
